Mission Moms – What’s Ahead in 2013

The Lantana outreach group, Mission Moms had a busy and successful holiday season which came and went; new memories created, gifts given and received, an abundance of food and drink shared, and many blessings counted.    Now, they welcome a new year with excitement and anticipation of what is to come.

Mission Moms, founded and facilitated by Kathryn Flores, is committed to ensuring that struggling families in the community are not forgotten.  Started just a few months ago when a simple need by a local student was brought to the attention of Kathryn, she quickly realized the greater concerns plaguing many in the community. A mom of two boys, Kathryn and her husband Joe, recognize the many blessings bestowed upon their family, and also recognize the responsibility of those who are able to give and provide for people facing hardship.  The vision is simple…To teach children to serve within their community and act upon the kindness within their hearts.  Teach. Serve. Act.

Mission Moms will be tackling even more in 2013 utilizing social media skills, personal and professional relationships, the willingness of caring businesses and individuals, as well as Kathryn’s determination and giving heart to make a greater impact this year.  There are many unmet needs within the elementary and middle schools of Lantana, and Mission Moms is committed to meeting those needs.  Mission Moms has applied and will obtain 501c3 status in the coming weeks, so those donators can claim tax deductions for their contributions.

On April 20, Mission Moms will be partnering with the Lantana Community Garage Sale for the 1st Annual Mission Moms Garage Sale & Fundraiser.  Mission Moms members and friends will be selling items in the North Star parking lot beginning at 6 a.m.  Items will be marked and 100 percent of money raised will go towards funding their 2013 missions.  Each mission is personal, for a specific cause, with a unique focus, and one goal in mind, to help people. Missions include but are not limited to: Summertime Snacks/Meals, Blessing of the Backpacks, Thanksgiving Round Up, and Christmas Kindness.

If you have items to sell that you’d like to donate, please drop items tagged with pricing at the North Star parking lot before 6 a.m. on April 20.

“I am thrilled and excited to build Mission Moms even larger, and I’m taking it step by step to ensure that we do that,” said Flores.

Whatever this year holds, Kathryn Flores and Mission Moms promises that the needy children will not be overlooked.

Mission Moms is giving a small group of families a ‘gift card’ to shop for clothes, household items and educational materials at the garage sale.  They hope to ease their burdens and help them get set for summer.

Please continue to follow Mission Moms on Facebook and missionmoms.org for more information on how you can get involved and give back.
